WHAT IS THE PEER RELATIONS STUDY GROUP?

Located in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Peer Relations Study Group (PRSG) engages in research on various aspects of peer relationships from early adolescence through young adulthood.  The group is led by Bradford Brown, Professor of Human Development, and includes graduate and post-doctoral students in his research lab.

 WHAT DO WE STUDY?

Among the issues that the PRSG or its members have investigated are:

  • Structure of adolescent peer groups
  • Multidimensionality of peer pressure
  • Susceptibility to peer pressure and adolescent drug use
  • Ethnic differences in adolescent friendship patterns
  • Peer group influences on academic achievement
  • Attachment transfer in adolescent romantic relationships
  • Parental involvement in adolescent peer relations
  • Styles of drug use in middle and late adolescence
  • Modes of peer influence in adolescence
  • Adult and adolescent perceptions of parents’ right to know about children’s peer relations

 WHEN DOES THE PRSG MEET?

The PRSG meets regularly throughout the year to discuss collaborative research projects and advise group members on their individual research studies.  Specific meetings time vary from semester to semester to accommodate group members’ schedules.
